Whitney Elizabeth Houston is a artist that was born in Newark, New Jersey on the 9th August 1963. Her parents are gospel singers Cissy Houston(n e Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney's cousin Dionne Warwick sings as well. In her early years she performed in the New Hope Baptist Church choir in Newark. When she was 15years old, Houston was singing professionally backing vocals with her mother on Chaka Khan's song from 1978 Im Every Woman. Her mother, Jermaine and Lou Rawls were a few of the performers she performed with. The singer was also modeling for Seventeen Magazine in 1981. She began working as a vocalist in the band Material. the New York-based funk band Material and it was the excellence of her singing in the band that caught the attention of the major record companies, such as Arista which she signed with in 1983, and with whom she was for the rest of her professional career. Whitney Houston's debut Whitney Houston album was released in the year 1985. It became one of the best-selling album by a musician. The album contained several hit songs including How Will I know You Give Good Love, Saving all My Love For you and The Greatest Love of All. It was instrumental in her achieving seven US charts-topping singles in a row and surpasses the Beatles. The album sold 3 million copies in its first season in the US and then went on to sell 25 million worldwide winning her the first of her six Grammies. The Whitney sequel in 1987, featuring the singles How Do Broken Hearts GO and I Wanna Dance With Somebody helped to expand on the popularity of her first album. However, it was, the 1992 movie The Bodyguard that solidified her position as one of the world's most loved artists. The Bodyguard's performance as a film as well as its soundtrack weren't popular however, the Dolly Parton cover I Will Always Love You as well as The Bodyguard album that accompanied it topped charts around the globe for several months. The same year, she married Bobby Brown who was a former New Edition singer. She had their only daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown. They were married on March 23, 1993.
