Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston was the youngest of the children of singer Dionne Warswick, and gospel music star Cissy Houston. Whitney Elizabeth Houston grew as a child in a household of musicians. As a young girl, Houston started performing professionally in her church's choir. Houston sang the backing vocals for Chaka Khosn's song from 1978 Im Every Woman with her mother. Then, she performed backing vocals to Jermaine Jackson and Lou Rawls as well as her mom. She began working as a featured vocalist for the New York-based funk band Material in the year 1981. It was this quality of her work as a vocalist together that brought the attention of several major record companies, such as Arista which she signed with in 1983, and with whom she was for the rest the duration of her career. Whitney Houston's debut Whitney Houston album was released in 1985. It was one of the top-selling albums of an artist. On the album, she had several smash singles, like Saving All My Love for You How Are You Going to Know If You're Good to Love? and The Greater Love of All. This led to her achieving seven US Top Ones consecutively. The singer beat the Beatles. The album was released in 1987 and sold 25 million copies worldwide. The Whitney sequel in 1987, featuring the singles Where Do Broken Hearts GO and I Wanna Dance With Somebody helped to build on the success of her debut album. But it was the 1992 film The Bodyguard that solidified her position as one of the world's most popular performers. Although the film and her performance on screen were not widely praised the soundtrack album and her version of the Dolly Parton song I Will Always Love You topped charts for albums and singles for a period of time and sold over 44 million copies across the globe. In 1993, it was also that she was married to Bobby Brown, an ex-New Edition musician and father of her sole daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown. Around this time, her drug abuse was documented, and she was able to use it regularly in 1996.
